On 1st May, a town hall meeting was held in Burco, the capital of Tog-dheer Region, bringing together some of the region’s elected Members of Parliament (MPs) and community representatives. The discussion focused on pressing local issues, including security concerns in Las Anod, the growing number of IDPs arriving in Burco, and delayed development projects, such as the long-promised Burco Public Library.

Key Discussion Points:

1. Security Situation in Las Anod

The MPs addressed the ongoing conflict in Las Anod (SoolRegion) and its spillover effects on Tog-dheer, including displaced families seeking refuge in Burco. Concerns were raised about the need for enhanced security measures to ensure stability in the region.

2. Influx of IDPs to Burco

With thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) arriving in Burco due to the Las Anod crisis, participants stressed the urgent need for humanitarian assistance, shelter, and sustainable support for the displaced families. The MPs pledged to advocate for more aid and long-term solutions.

3. Unfulfilled Promises: The Burco Public Library Project Community members expressed frustration over the delay in constructing the Burco Public Library, a project promised to foster education and youth development. The MPs acknowledged the concerns and committed to following up on the project’s progress with relevant authorities.

Attendees:

  • MP Hassan Ahmed Elmi

  • MP Hussein Adan Abdi
