The Institute for Practical Research and Training (IPRT) is proud to announce its collaboration with GAME and SCORE on two groundbreaking initiatives aimed at empowering youth and strengthening community resilience in Somaliland.

1. Increasing Climate Change Awareness and Adaptation (IK3C Project)

Under the IK3C project, the Institute for Peace and Research Training (IPRT) has partnered with GAME and SCORE to advance climate change knowledge and resilience among vulnerable populations in Somaliland.

In response to escalating climate challenges, this dynamic initiative—driven by the energy and vision of young leaders and supported by funding from CISU—places youth at the forefront of local climate action. Central to the project is the Youth-led Climate Vulnerability and Capacity Assessments (CVCA), a grassroots approach empowering young people to identify local climate risks and design tailored adaptation strategies. Drawing on their intimate understanding of their communities, these youth leaders uncover vulnerabilities while envisioning innovative, sustainable solutions to protect their environments.

Training Climate Ambassadors for Advocacy and Action

To expand its impact, the project trains Climate Ambassadors, equipping them with the tools and knowledge needed to lead effective advocacy campaigns. These ambassadors serve as agents of change, working to raise awareness, engage communities, and inspire collective action. Their efforts go beyond simply spreading information—they aim to foster a deeper understanding of climate issues and promote meaningful participation in addressing them.

Innovation Through Participation and Sports-Based Activities

Innovation lies at the heart of the IK3C project. The initiative utilizes participatory workshops and sports-based awareness activities to spark creativity and collaboration. During workshops, community members and youth co-create cutting-edge climate adaptation solutions, merging local knowledge with fresh perspectives. Simultaneously, sports-based activities provide an engaging and accessible platform for dialogue, encouraging unity and motivation while promoting climate resilience.

A Youth-Driven Response to the Climate Crisis

These collective efforts represent a powerful, youth-driven response to the climate crisis, made possible through the invaluable support of CISU. By turning challenges into opportunities, the IK3C project is empowering communities to build a sustainable future.

This initiative also aligns with Somaliland’s National Climate Change Policy, amplifying the voices of youth and women in climate decision-making and ensuring an inclusive approach to tackling the impacts of climate change.

2. Promoting Peacebuilding and Youth Engagement Ahead of Elections

In partnership with GAME and SCORE, the Institute for Peace and Research Training (IPRT) is spearheading an initiative to foster social cohesion and promote peaceful political participation ahead of Somaliland's 2024 elections. This forward-thinking project is designed to empower youth as agents of peace, bridge political and clan divides, and ensure a non-violent electoral process.

Training Youth Playmakers in Leadership and Mediation

At the heart of this initiative is the training of Playmakers, young leaders equipped with skills in conflict mediation, advocacy, and leadership. These Playmakers are prepared to act as mediators and community influencers, fostering dialogue and understanding in their communities. By addressing potential sources of conflict and encouraging peaceful resolution, they play a critical role in promoting harmony during the election period.

Bridging Divides Through Community Dialogue Forums

The project also facilitates community dialogue forums, bringing together youth, elders, and local leaders to address tensions and build trust. These forums serve as platforms for open and constructive conversations aimed at bridging political and clan divides. By fostering mutual understanding and collaboration, the dialogues strengthen social cohesion and lay the groundwork for peaceful elections.

Launching the #Youth4PeaceSL Advocacy Campaign

To amplify its impact, the initiative includes the #Youth4PeaceSL advocacy campaign, designed to promote non-violent electoral participation. This youth-led campaign leverages social media, community events, and public outreach to inspire young people to embrace peaceful political engagement and reject violence during elections. By highlighting the role of youth in shaping a peaceful future, #Youth4PeaceSL reinforces the importance of collective action and civic responsibility.

A Unified Path Toward Peaceful Elections

Together, these efforts form a powerful, youth-driven movement for peacebuilding and engagement ahead of the 2024 elections. Through strategic partnerships with GAME and SCORE, IPRT is ensuring that communities are prepared to navigate the electoral process with unity, dialogue, and understanding.

This initiative underscores the critical role of young people in shaping Somaliland’s future, promoting peaceful participation, and strengthening the foundations of democracy.

Both projects reflect IPRT’s commitment to youth empowerment, sustainable development, and inclusive governance. By leveraging sports, participatory research, and advocacy, we aim to create lasting change in Somaliland’s most vulnerable communities.
